Maui Tomorrow Foundation is pleased to announce a $5,000 Matching Funds Gift from ‘Apono Hawai‘i for the Hawaii Superferry Legal Fund

The goal of this challenge is to raise another $5,000 in contributions by October 15, 2008

Please support the continuing legal appeal of Act 2, which allows Hawaii Superferry to operate before an Environmental Impact Study (EIS) is complete

Maui Tomorrow Foundation, the Sierra Club and Kahului Harbor Coalition remain dedicated to continuing this legal challenge and know our case in strong. The battle is long and costs mount so please help to protect Hawaii's precious resources by matching this generous $5,000 donation. Every $10, $25, or more you can contribute will do so much to protect our island home.

You can donate directly through PayPal using the link above or mail a donation by check to:

Donations are tax deductible and part of the growing statewide opposition to the overturning of Hawaii’s environmental law.

As we now see from the DLNR’s monthly DOCARE reports and the recently released Rapid Risk Assessment, many of the issues raised by those who fought for the EIS first have now come to pass. Issues such as the amount of cultural and natural resources taken from Maui by HSF passengers; lack of thorough inspection of dirty vehicles (a major pathway for the transport of invasive species); no promised technology in place on HSF vessels to ensure against collisions with humpback whales during evening transits. These are but some of the many threats which increase the potential for harm to Hawaii’s fragile environment by the passing of Act 2.
