Net Metering Cap Nears

Alarming statistics have recently been realized regarding Net Metering in Maui. Maui is currently at 81% of its cap. This means the cap should be met in 1-3 months. Meeting the cap will cease all net metered solar system installations in the county and will shatter hopes of a greener Maui through solar energy.
 
The Public Utility Commission has been reviewing Docket 2006-0084 which would increase the cap from the current .5% to 1%. The enactment of this docket is crucial to solar's success for the state of Hawaii.
 
Please help us fight for our right for Solar on Maui by contacting the Public Utility Commission as well as Mayor Tavares and Governor Lingle. When emailing or phoning:
 
Give your name and explain that you are emailing/calling due to the alarming closeness to Maui’s Net Metering cap.

Let them know that you are a concerned Maui resident who sees maxing out the cap as detrimental to the goals of a cleaner, greener island. Hitting the cap will deny homeowners, business owners and builders the right to choose solar power. You can also mention that the affects are already being felt in the Maui’s solar industry as there is hesitation from potential solar owners because of the closeness to the cap.

Please focus on the fact that Maui is already at 81% of the cap, only 212 NEM kWs away from maxing out. This means the cap will be met in the next 1 to 3 months!

Ask that the Public Utility Company enact docket 2006-0084 immediately or Maui’s entire solar industry will come to a standstill.
