Kahului Harbor Master Plan 2030

Here is the website for the KAHULUI HARBOR Master Plan 2030

The state Department of Transportation has extended the public comment period by 30 days for the draft environmental impact study on $345 million in Kahului Harbor improvements.

State officials wanted more time to clarify the document, including more specifics about the impacts of harbor dredging and new breakwaters on the environment, said Mike Formby, Transportation Department harbors chief. The new deadline for public comments is March 29.

"This will give us an opportunity to make sure everybody understands the process," Formby said.

Copies of the Kahului Harbor Master Plan 2030 draft environmental impact statement can be found at local libraries or online at www.beltcollins.com/kahului.

The Kahului Harbor Master Plan/Environmental Impact Statement effort continues the work of Harbors Division to plan and develop harbor facilities that help Maui to enjoy its prosperity and quality of life. We are updating our Kahului plan in recognition of the crowded conditions in the harbor today and in the near future. We seek to develop long-term solutions to today's challenges and those of the years to come. The 2025 master plan is being updated to address the robust growth and new maritime operations that will challenge Kahului Commercial Harbor through the year 2030.

In order to move from planning to action in a timely way, Harbors Division is working on a combined Master Plan/Environmental Impact Statement. When the combined document is finished and accepted, we hope to move ahead quickly on harbor improvements. The Harbors Division is undertaking the Kahului Commercial Harbor 2030 Master Plan concurrent with its Environmental Impact Statement. These concurrent efforts will enable the master plan task force's consideration of any potential environmental impacts while planning Kahului Commercial Harbor's 2030 improvements.
