Shaping Maui's Future

Maui Tomorrow Foundation, Inc., Board of Directors

PRESIDENT EMERITUS – Ron Sturtz, Esq. passed away on December 11, 2007. For five years, Ron served as President of Maui Tomorrow, tirelessly transforming the organization into a disciplined and focused force for the preservation and protection of the environment. If ever there was a gentle warrior, it was Ron Sturtz.
"He made Maui whole," said Kupuna and friend Ed Lindsey. "He gave us all hope for today, and for the future." Maui County Councilwoman Michelle Anderson agreed. "Maui County as a whole, and the environmental community in particular, has lost a hero."

She has served as President of the Makena Surf Homeowners Association and President of the Kihei Community Association, representing over 20,000 South Maui residents. She has also served on the Mayor's Cruise Ship Task Force and an Advisory Committee to the Mayor on obtaining a Sewage Pump Out Facility at Ma'alaea Harbor.

VICE PRESIDENT – Rob Parsons served four years as Maui County's first ever Environmental Coordinator, as executive assistant to Mayor Alan Arakawa.  A 30-year Maui resident and current Conservation Chair of Maui Sierra Club and past President of Ha‘iku Community Association, Rob is presently employed as an environmental reporter, educating and advocating community involvement on issues of sustainability, resource conservation, land use, responsible planning, and renewable energy.

TREASURER – Trip Lynch – Married on Maui 10 years ago and a frequent visitor since, Trip and his wife relocated to Upcountry Maui in 2006 after the youngest of their 6 children headed to college. A marketing and financial professional, Trip has run successful international businesses based in Europe, Asia, and the mainland. Passionate about art and real estate, Trip and Deb are keenly aware of Maui's fragile beauty and dedicated to preserving its grandeur for future generations to enjoy as they do.

SECRETARY – Maury King is new to Maui but not to volunteering. He works as a real estate agent & has a hobby as a glass artist. Currently serving as volunteer coordinator for Maui Tomorrow, he held a similar position with the Pilchuck Glass School in Seattle as well as community service with the Board of Realtors® and other groups over the years. Catch him on a Sierra Club hike or having a snorkel at Keawakapu.

PAST PRESIDENT, Mark Sheehan, Ph.D. Education, owner, Landmark Maui Properties, Inc., is a dynamic presence in Maui's environmental community: past president of Makawao Community Association; board member of Maui Open Space Trust and State Park at Makena; board member of the Montessori School, Maui and of Haleakala Waldorf School.

Edwin Lindsey is a retired I‘ao School teacher who gained reknown for his work on culturally based alternatives for youth-at-risk. He actively works to bridge environmental issues with Hawaiian cultural concerns through his involvement in a range of community organizations and his consistent presence at hearings and meetings. He is a consultant to Na Kupuna O Maui, an organization of recognized Kupunas on Maui whose objective is to save all things Hawaiian and to offer advise and counsel to problems of body and spirit. Ed was a candidate for Mayor of Maui County in 1998 and is currently focusing on endemic plants and cultural sites.

Lance Holter is a long time Maui resident and conservationist who believes that the message "Maui's environment is Maui's economy" must be delivered to every policy maker in the State. As Hawai‘i's Sierra Club Conservation Chair and Maui Group Chairman Lance sees the "tipping point" for this idea has begun to guide decision making locally and throughout the great state of Hawai‘i.

Richard Michaels is a film and television director whose credits include over 50 episodes of Bewitched as well as The Brady Bunch, Love, American Style and Ellery Queen. He also directed over 30 TV movies and miniseries such as Sadat, Scared Straight!, and Leona Helmsley: The Queen of Mean. Formerly a member of the State of Hawai‘i Board of Acupuncture and presently a member of the Maui County Board of Water Supply.

Elle Cochran – Having been born and raised on Maui, seeing the changes to our island can be disheartening at times. Maui Tomorrow has given me an outlet for my passion, energy and drive to want to make a positive difference. As a founding member and former President of the Save Honolua Coalition, I have experienced what a well meaning group and the community can accomplish together. I am excited to be a part of this prestigious group of dedicated and talented people of Maui tomorrow.

Irene served as Vice President of the Maui chapter of the American Cetacean Society in the late 1970's and was a founding member, in 1980, of Pacific Whale Foundation. She has been involved with a number of environmental organizations and issues in Hawai‘i over the years.
